Purim 2021
The tradition of giving Shalach Manot gift boxes continues in 2021!
As Har Shalom has done in past years, EVERY congregant, religious school, and preschool family will receive a box delivered by a community volunteer.
For this year to be successful, please fill out this Purim form donate to off-set costs, sign up if you can volunteer your time the week of February 15th to the 19th to assemble boxes, or sign up to deliver cookies on Sunday, February 21st.
If you will not be home on Sunday, Feb 21st when boxes are delivered, or if you have allergies for us to consider, please email purim@congregationharshalom.org so that we can accommodate you.
Note that this year, following protocols for COVID19, the boxes will include prepackaged goodies but will not include baked hamantaschen. However, we have worked with a local Great Harvest Bread Co. so you can purchase baked cookies or raw logs of dough directly from them at their Scotch Pines location to make your own! Please see below for details.
Great Harvest has Hamantaschen dough or baked cookies for you!
Over the last four years, Great Harvest, using Har Shalom’s recipe, has prepared dough for our community bake days so we can fill our shalach manot. While baking and packing 1,500 cookies will not happen at Har Shalom this year, you can make it happen at home!
Hamantaschen dough and baked cookies will be available from Feb 19 to 26 (closed Saturdays for Sabbath). The cost is $12.99 for twelve-inch dough logs which makes about four dozen cookies. Skip the baking, or complement it, with baked hamantaschen cookies! Six cookies can be purchased for $5. Note: Please order through Great Harvest, 2601 Lemay Ave location only.
Make your Purim complete by ordering Scrip for Great Harvest before February 10th by contacting scrip@congregationharshalom.org or going through your personal scrip account. When you use a Scrip card to pay for your order, Har Shalom earns 6% back!
Megillah Readings
Creative Reading - Thursday evening, February 25, 7 - 9pm
Come enjoy some serious fun when members of our community read the chapters of the Megillah in unusual and surprising ways! Costumes are strongly encouraged - everyone will look so great over Zoom!
Traditional Reading - Friday morning, February 26, 10am until finished!
We will read, in both English and Hebrew, the Book of Esther, and discuss some of the themes of this remarkable story and book.
See Purim Happenings for Zoom information!
Religious School Activities
Make Hamantaschen with the kids!
The religious school will be making Hamantaschen through Zoom on Sunday, Feb 28, after shira, during the regular HSRS time. All students can pick up dough and fillings at Har Shalom on Sunday, Feb 21 between 3:00 and 4:00pm.
A huge thank you to Great Harvest Bread company for preparing our traditional dough and to Trudy Herman for preparing our allergy-friendly dough. At the this time, you will also be able to pick up the end of February/March supply bags.
Adults and Students of HSRS: Be a part of our annual Purim costume contest!
You are encouraged to dress in costume when you come to class, on Sunday, Feb 28. Show off your creativity, over Zoom, during shira at 9am.
Not a part of the religious school? We would love to have you join over Zoom. Email Nicki at hsrsdirector@congregationharshalom.org for the zoom codes.
