Kitah Gan (Kindergarten)Hello Kitah Gan! Today, after a wonderful Shira, we broke out and added our own verses to the dreidel song - lots of fun to start our session with singing. Next we made our own candles from beeswax and wicks - while I read a story about a cat named, Mazel and an artist named, Misha. A lovely tale about sharing what we have - even when we have little - to add light into this world. I have sent via separate email two PDF presentations. One is today’s about beeswax candles and the other is a lesson and craft on
dreidels. Please enjoy doing this over the rest of Hanukkah OR over the break. Wishing you all joy and light and Happy Hanukkah!
Kitah Alef/Bet (1st grade/2nd grade)Today was a fun day for all Kitah Aleph Bet. We were part of the school wide Chanukah with Debbie and Rabbi. When we went to our breakout room, we reviewed Chanukah. I taught the kids a fun song “I’m a little latkah” that I made up over 25 years ago. We made beeswax candles for our Menorahs. We told our friends our favorite part of Chanukah. I showed the kids a whole bunch of my Disney Menorah which I collect.
“MAY DO” ASSIGNMENTS: Any student who did not complete their homework should try to finish over break. Send me pictures so they can get their shekels. My son, Jeremysam, read Jeremy’s Dreidel, a fun Chanukah book with different voices.
“MUST DO” ASSIGNMENTS: Please return my books to Nicki so we can keep sharing them. Happy Chanukah and Shavua Tov. Enjoy your Winter Break :)
Kitah Gimel (3rd grade)Hey Everyone! We had a fun day today! We started out with our songs and a great lesson from Rabbi, learning about the importance of Chanukah. After moving to our breakout rooms we started making our fantastic candles (A special thanks to Nicki and the Youth Education committee for the candle kits). Everyone made 9 candles and they should be ready to use right away. We read a story about the evil King Antiochus and how he was oppressing the Jews and destroying their way of life. They kids learned about how the Macabees persevered and were able to get the Temple back and light the menorah. We finished our day with some spirited Dreidel spinning. The kids played for shekels and did some pretty cool trick shots as well. They were very patient through the story and had great questions at the end!
“MUST DO” ASSIGNMENTS:
1 - Send a picture of the candles we made being lit, you don’t have to use them all at once or wait for the 8th night (You can use just a couple if needed).
2 - Watch the video shown in the following link and let me know if you have any questions! https://youtu.be/IlJ_5Tyu5iA
Kitah Dalet (4th grade)From Morah Batyah (Wednesday): The classes are getting excited to be almost finished with Book 1. We will have a celebration after break to mark this great accomplishment. Everyone is exceeding my expectations and are becoming good readers. I am particularly pleased to see them sounding out the sounds of unfamiliar words. This will be a good use later on in their Hebrew lessons.
- Aleph (4:30pm group)
- We have one last page in Lesson 9 and will finish that and go on to Lesson 10 next week. May do homework: Review page 62-64 and complete the coloring exercises on page 67.
- Bet (6:00pm group)
- We introduced the Caf and the Ayin (silent) this week. Keywords are: Ivrit (Hebrew) and Kitah (classroom).
May do homework: Review page 72-74. Practice reading.
From Morah Naomi (Sunday): Happy Hanukkah! Today we had a wonderful time singing songs with Debbie Fidler, then we moved to breakout rooms and made our beeswax candles. We listened to the story called
Latkes, Latkes good to eat about a little girl in Russia who gets a magic pan that makes latkes on its own. Only she knows the magic words to make it start and stop making latkes. Unfortunately, while she is away, her brothers want to try the magic pan and can't figure out how to stop it from making latkes once they are full. It keeps making latkes until they are spilling out of the house. In the end, the whole town has to have a party and help eat all the latkes. We talked about what food we would want a magic pan to make :)
There are no assignments in Seesaw, only optional activities. Have a wonderful break and see you next year! Chag Sameach!
Kitah Hey (5th grade)Morah Addie (Wednesday): On Wednesday we finished our Hebrew puzzle, and read the phrase "A good name is more precious than fine oil" in Hebrew. After discussing what that phrase might mean, we learned about and read some of the different names for God.
May do homework: Look at the cartoon on p. 7 with someone from your family and discuss- what could it possibly mean??
Morah Addie (Sunday): Today we enjoyed some relaxed time together to work on our Hanukkah craft- a stained glass menorah! I hope everyone found a good place to hang theirs- mine is on our front door so everyone knows it's Hanukkah!
Kitah Vav (6th grade)From Rabbi Finestone (Wednesday): We spent our time together practicing the Hanukkah blessings and discussing their meaning.
From Morah Michelle (Sunday): I am so proud at how well Kitah Vav did leading the Saturday service last week. While we worked on our stained glass menorah craft, we were able to see each other’s Hanukkah presents, talked about our plans for winter break, and shared what our families do for Hanukkah. Enjoy your time away and I will see everyone January 10th
Kitah Zayin (7th grade)From Morah Jennifer (Wednesday): This week we started our class by showing off our hannukiot. Each student showed their hannukiah and told the story behind, whether it was a family heirloom or just a favorite design. We also started “The Diary of Anne Frank.” We discussed Eleanor Roosevelt’s introduction, watched a short video on Anne, and talked about why reading the diary is so important.
“MUST DO” TASK: The assignment for next week is to read through page 13.Chag Sameach everyone!
From Rabbi Finestone (Sunday): We attempted to make paper stained glass menorot, with varying levels of success. :-) We then practiced the Hebrew of the Hanukkah song, “Mah Oz Tzur” and looked at two translations. One is the one most people know, and the second is a more literal translation of the Hebrew. We compared the two translations and discussed the differences.
TeensClass will be held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of MOST months. Next class sessions will be
this Tuesday, December 15
