Childcare/Youth Programming FAQs

Is there childcare for all High Holiday events?

No. Some events are designed for the entire family to attend together. Check the schedule for details.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. 12 months. Infants younger than 12 months are welcome to stay with their family in the service. You may also bring your infant to child care and stay with them.

Is registration required?

Yes! We hire staff, plan programs, and purchase supplies and food based on Registration numbers. It’s imperative that you register by Wednesday, September 5. How do I register? Click here and fill out the form: https://www.congregationharshalom.org/form/adminhigh-holy-days.html

Does it cost anything?

No, but donations are greatly appreciated to help offset expenses for childcare and programming Suggested Donation: $18 per child for all Rosh Hashanah Services $18 per child for all Yom Kippur services ($54 maximum for three or more children per service)

When do you open? When do you close?

Childcare opens 10 minutes before the start of each service and closes 10 minutes after services end. Please be prompt in picking up your children.

What’s the difference between childcare and youth programming?

Childcare provides a supervised, safe space for young children to spend time during the holidays. We will have holiday-themed story times, songs, and age-appropriate holiday videos. There are no services during child care. Youth programming includes interactive, religious services designed for each age group, holiday-related activities such as Torah text study, craft projects, stories, singing, and time for free play and snack.

Teens will have holiday-themed discussion groups and can choose to help run activities and services for younger children.

Do you provide snack and lunch?

We provide allergy-friendly snacks for all ages during all services. You are welcome to bring snacks, or lunch if your child will be staying past 11:30am, but all items must be labeled, be vegetarian, and peanut-free.

Do children attend any part of the main service?

Yes! The children will sing an opening song (Shehechiyanu) during Erev Rosh Hashanah services and closing songs during several of the daytime services. All children will be brought into the sanctuary as a group for all shofar-blowing moments during the High Holidays.

Are children allowed to go back and forth from youth programming to the sanctuary?

Children ages 10 and up can go back and forth between youth programming and the main service, with the prior permission of their parent at check-in. Children 9 and under must be escorted back and forth to the sanctuary by a parent or a sibling over age 13, with prior permission of their parent at check-in.

I still have questions. Who do I ask?
