Attitude of Gratitude

Debbi Bodie

As you prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, I’d like to take a moment to share a brief update of Happenings at Har Shalom and my gratitude for this sacred community.

Thanks to hours of research by Trudy Herman, we have a beautiful new dishwasher. Many of you know that we are fortunate to have two dishwashers but over the summer, one stopped working and now we are back in business until the second one gives out. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this won’t happen any time soon. Thanks for caring about our kitchen, Trudy!

The Operations Committee has been busy working on the Homeland Security Grant. Members of the committee have been getting multiple bids for the security items that we will be able to purchase with grant funds. We are at the beginning stages of this process and it will take us a couple of years to complete this grant, but good work is underway thanks to Greg Herman, chair of the Ops Committee and committee members, Paul Lessem, Neil Sherrod, Chad Pfeif, Udi Ziegerson, Mat Morton, Tara Morton, Ron Weinberg, Adam Graber and Steve Shtulman.

On November 17th, the fundraising committee put on a fabulous Hanukkah market. The turnout was terrific, the market had numerous Hanukkah items for purchase, it brought our community together and it helped kick-off Har Shalom’s holiday season. You can still shop for Hanukkah candles, dreidels and gelt. Not sure about Hanukkah presents for your friends and family. BUY SCRIP! Stop by the office to get your scrip and Hanukkah supplies and if you do, stop by my office and come say hello. Thank you to our amazing Fundraising Committee, Leah Lamkin, chair and her committee members Trudy Herman, Laura Actor, Gretchen Kastetter, Tal Bloom, Anne Wera, Lorrie Jacobson and Stephanie Luzuriaga.

In early fall, we received a wonderful gift that came out of nowhere. One of our newest members, Yaron Weinberg, owner of 365 IT graciously offered to take over our IT support at no charge to the community. Ron donated gently used computer equipment that is a huge upgrade from the equipment that we were using. Whenever we have an IT issue, Ron jumps into action to help us with our IT frustrations. Soon, Ron will be upgrading our library equipment which is desperately needed. I am so grateful for his tremendous support and generosity.

A big shout out to our dedicated security company, Precision Security Team. Owners Ricky Druery and Jay Suttor are professionals in the world of security and they always have our backs. Every day, our guards Glenn, Jared and Riley watch over our community to keep us safe which brings peace of mind for Har Shalom.

I have such gratitude to for our newly formed Response Team. They are a self-sustaining ongoing group of volunteer guardians who are designated to provide safety and security to our spiritual family. Let me acknowledge our fearless leader, Barak Banta and his team, HJ Siegel, Greg Herman, Lois Fink, Chad Pfeif, Don Darling and Jose Alvarenga. They play an important role working in collaboration with Precision Security team and Investigator Aaron Horwitz from the Larimer County Sherriff’s Department who is an important resource for us.

This Thanksgiving foster an attitude of gratitude. I am grateful for the opportunity to be your Executive Director, to work with an amazing team, Rabbi Sally Finestone, Ilene Forsyth, Nicki Shamis, Addie Cutler, Gretchen Kastetter, Heather Regan, Judy Peterson and Felix Cadena, the board of directors under the leadership of Ginny Riley and to be part of this special Jewish community in Fort Collins.

Warmest and sincere regards,

Debbi Bodie
