Spring Play Reading

Sunday, March 26, 2023 4 Nisan 5783

2:00 PM - 5:00 PMSanctuary

All are invited to participate. No experience is necessary, nor is an RSVP. You can just listen if you prefer. The play is "Kindertransport" by Diane Samuels.

In November 1938, after nights of violence against Jews across Germany and Austria, the British government introduces a program called "Kindertransport," which gives Jewish children - and ONLY children - safe passage to the UK. Over 10,000 Jewish "Kinder" are uprooted, separated from their parents, and transported to a different culture. There they face - not the horror of the death camps - but a very human mixture of kindness, indifference, and the selflessness of ordinary people faced with needy children.

The play tells the story of one of these children - now grown - who has tried to forget her distressing past - and her daughter who discovers it.

"Searing theatre which cuts across a continuum of suffering to the very heart of what unifies us as human." ~ The Times of London
